In 1996 we partnered with Search, Inc.to co-found the Planet Access Company, a state-of-the-art warehouse that trains and employs adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Planet Access Company (PAC) employs up to 70 individuals with disabilities annually in paid, train-to-work opportunities, including product assembly, order processing, and materials handling. PAC also offers a transition program for high school students to help set them up for success once they graduate. All of the profits from Planet Access Company are invested back into Search, Inc. and the well-being of PAC employees.
Travel is a big inspiration for us, and we believe that everyone can benefit from out-of-the-box, try-something-new, you’re-never-gunna-believe-it travel. In 2004 we cofounded Search for Adventure, a unique travel program to facilitate vacations for adults with disabilities. SFA has taken more than 700 people on 104 trips that have included hiking the historic Appalachian Trail, experiencing the majesty of the Grand Canyon, and riding the range at the Powderhorn Dude Ranch in Colorado. In 2016, we partnered with the National Parks Foundation and Wilderness Inquiry, accessible travel company, to get 1,225 people with disabilities into 10 different national parks via the Canoemobile. In most cases, these outdoor experiences are the first outdoor opportunities people with disabilities have had. Let’s keep it up.
